Steven Cass

My name is Steven and I’m a Trainee Clinical Psychologist on the Oxford University doctorate program. I completed my BSc in Psychology at the University of Warwick followed by an MSc in Forensic Psychology at the University of Kent. I then gained eight years of experience as a Mental Health Support Worker, Assistant Psychologist, Senior Assistant Psychologist, and Research Associate. So far, my clinical experience has been in forensic services, learning disability services, acute inpatient wards, a ministry of defence ward, and a crisis resolution home treatment team. I am mainly interested in working with men with a range of diagnoses in a variety of settings, and I would like to gain experience of working in drug and alcohol services, homelessness, veterans’ services, and community mental health teams. I am passionate about exploring a wide range of therapeutic modalities, including Jungian Analysis, Transpersonal Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Internal Family Systems therapy, and plan to be involved in researching some of these different models throughout my career. As a practicing Buddhist and member of the Tergar Buddhist community, I am also passionate about exploring the interface between western psychology and Buddhist psychology and practice. I have written a book called ‘Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation’, which I hope to get published, and I have several ideas for other books that present Buddhist teachings for a modern, western audience.
