Natasha Niekamp

I have just started my training (2022) and embarked on a split placement working with adult clients in a Mental Health Hospital Liaison Team and a Perinatal Mental Health Service specialising in maternal trauma and loss.

A lot of my work in the past has focused either on anxiety disorders or on children and young people: I worked at a psychiatric anxiety unit with individuals living with panic disorder and agoraphobia. I also have experience working in a babylab, in a refugee service supporting adolescents, and at a parenting project for young families.

My last role, right before I started training, combined these two interests:

I worked for the Oxford TOPIC group (The Oxford Psychological Interventions for Children and adolescents group) at the Department of Experimental Psychology on a project that aimed to prevent anxiety disorders in at-risk children of primary school age.

I have been writing blogs for the BPS newsletter since 2021 and have been an active member of the BPS community in the past.

My current clinical interests include anxiety prevention in children and young people, perinatal mental health, systemic family therapy and physical and sexual health.
