Michaela Leeming

I am currently a trainee clinical psychologist, having started my training at the University of Oxford in 2024. My first placement is 6 months in an Older Adults (OA) Psychology team as part of the wider OA CMHT. Prior to training, I completed my BSc in Psychology at Lancaster University in 2019. During my undergraduate I worked as a volunteer mental health advocate with Advocacy Focus. I stayed at Lancaster to complete my MSc in Psychological Research Methods in 2020. Upon graduating, I initially worked within secondary care services, supporting those with severe and enduring mental health difficulties to access and manage employment. Following this, I trained as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) with the University of Sheffield and worked as a qualified PWP until 2023. Within this role, I delivered low-intensity CBT assessment and treatment sessions with individuals across the lifespan. I was promoted to Senior PWP at the start of 2023, which involved various leadership responsibilities such as line management and clinical supervision. During my time in IAPT (now NHSTT), I fostered an interest in working with people who have long-term conditions (LTCs). Key areas of interest are (but not limited to): the mind-body link, health anxiety in those with LTCs, women’s health, and neurodivergence in women. However, I’m looking forward to widening my interests during training and particularly working with populations that I never have before i.e. children, people with learning disabilities, etc.
