Melissa Stock

I am a first-year trainee on the Oxford Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (2022 – 2025). My first placement will be a year-long split between IAPT and working on an older adult’s inpatient ward.

Prior Experience

I completed my BSc in Psychology (2015-18) and MSc in Clinical Psychology (2018-19) at Royal Holloway University of London.

My first Assistant Psychologist role was in an adult community Eating Disorder Service. During this time, I facilitated guided self-help (GSH), cognitive behavioural therapy for eating disorders (CBT-E) and Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA) on a 1:1 and group basis. At the beginning of the pandemic, I co-produced and facilitated an online GSH group for those struggling with Binge Eating Disorder, which is now widely used across the service. Eight months before training I moved to another Assistant Psychologist post working across two teams: Early Intervention in Psychosis and Probation in Psychology, Offender Personality Disorder Pathway. This role was working with carers and offering consultations with probation practitioners on their “harder to engage” cases.

I’ve been a Research Assistant on many different projects prior to joining the course. These include investigating the barriers students face in accessing mental health support whilst at university,

compiling pedagogical resources and recording screencasts for chapters in Understanding Quantitative and Qualitative Research in Psychology (Bourne, James & Wilson-Smith, 2021), analysing a national project, funded by the British Psychological Society, offering mentoring to support leadership development for Clinical Psychologists and assisting the development of two augmented reality immersive board games; one to help young people improve their wellbeing and the other supporting young people with long-term health conditions transitioning from child and adolescent to adult services.

Clinical and Research Interests

Whilst I am excited to learn and foster new interests, I have a particular passion for working with children and young people, specifically in the field of eating disorders & supporting the educational sector to build on their mental health literacy in order to improve provisions to support their young people.
