Emma Izon

I am a trainee on the Oxford Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (2020-2023).

Prior to training, I completed my PhD which explored the family environment in the at-risk mental state population. I investigated changes in expressed emotion over time and the effects on symptoms for both individuals at-risk of developing psychosis and their family members/carers (using quantitative methods). I also explored caregivers’ experiences and their needs over time (using qualitative methods).

For four years, I worked as a research assistant at the Psychosis Research Unit, Greater Manchester NHS Foundation Trust. I was involved in two randomised control trials. One was a feasibility trial that involved individuals at high-risk of developing psychosis and their families. Individuals were allocated to either combined individual CBT and family intervention, or standard care. The other was a multisite trial that involved individuals with a diagnosis of psychosis, who were experiencing social anxiety. Individuals were allocated to either virtual reality therapy or standard care.

I am passionate about social inclusion and looking forward to supporting people from different communities, cultures and local staff.
