Myra J Cooper is Senior Research Tutor on the Training Course.
The Senior Research Tutor, in consultation with the Course Director, oversees and consults on all trainee research.

Myra qualified as a clinical psychologist at Edinburgh University in 1984. After a year as a clinician in the Forth Valley Health Board she joined the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford in 1985. She completed her DPhil there in 1991 on eating disorders, which remains her primary area of research and clinical expertise. Myra joined the Oxford Clinical Psychology Training Course in 1994, alongside clinical work in Aylesbury Vale Mental Healthcare Trust. She became full time on the Course in 1996, and now works part time for the Course.
Myra has an international reputation for her research work. She has published well over 100 research papers on eating disorders and related topics. She has a particular interest in cognitive models and cognitive therapy, in emotional processing and the application of neurobiology. Her interests extend beyond eating disorders and she has published on a wide range of other disorders and interests. She has presented at many national and international conferences and has published three well received books on eating disorders, including a self-help book and a therapist treatment manual. She enjoys collaborating with different research groups and has been very fortunate in her professional links and collaborations over the years, both in Oxford and elsewhere.
Myra is an HCPC registered psychologist, a Chartered Psychologist, and a Fellow of the British Psychological Society. She is also an honorary member of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford.
