Rupa qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2012 from the University of Surrey.
Rupa began working in the NHS in 2002. She has experience of working with individuals, couples, families and teams in multiple differing contexts and services, both in community and on inpatient wards. Rupa has worked in community mental health teams (CMHT) with differing service configurations and treatment provision. These have included general CMHTs, treatment specific pathway teams, Early Intervention in Psychosis and Mental Health Integrated Network Teams. Rupa has also worked in a range of inpatient wards, varying from high, medium, and low secure, acute admission, psychiatric intensive care units, rehabilitation, therapeutic community, forensic and non-forensic. The inpatient settings provided care for adults with mental health needs, learning disability and personality disorders. Having worked in roles of Psychological Lead and Principal Clinical Psychologist Rupa has expertise in leading psychology teams, developing services, providing supervision to staff, consultation to multi-disciplinary colleagues, organising and facilitating multiple team away days/trainings.
Rupa’s interest areas are around exploring narratives of adversity, unwellness and mental health and how mental health is experienced by person/s, families, and communities. Linked to this Rupa is interested working with clients from marginalised communities who find it hard to access mental healthcare, understanding their experiences of healthcare provided to them and contributing to the development of services in reference to cultural competence to meet the needs of hard-to-reach clients in the community.
Outside of work, Rupa is an Honorary Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Mentor on the Clinical Psychology Doctorate courses at University College London (UCL) and Surrey. Alongside this, Rupa has been assisted in the interview process for the Clinical Psychology Doctorate course at University of Surrey.
