Chartered Clinical Psychologist, Course Tutor and Lead for Intellectual Disabilities (Learning Disabilities)
Background
I have worked in the NHS and third sector since 2004 within a range of mental health services and settings. Since qualifying as a clinical psychologist in 2012, I have predominantly worked with adults with learning disabilities, their families and support systems in the Oxfordshire Community Learning Disability Services. I provide neuro-psychological assessment and psychological interventions drawing from a range of models and approaches including positive behavioural support, cognitive behavioural therapy, narrative and systemic.
I am a chartered member of the British Psychological Society, member of the Division of Clinical Psychology and the Faculty for People with Intellectual Disabilities. My doctoral research explored how schools support adolescents who have been bereaved, and I have since acted as a peer reviewer for the journal, Death Studies.
Current role and professional interests
I joined the Oxford Clinical Psychology Doctoral Course in March 2021 and lead the Intellectual Disabilities (Learning Disabilities) stream on the course coordinating teaching, placements and research. I am passionate about addressing the social and health inequalities people with learning disabilities face and am keen to hear from people with learning disabilities, their families and support systems about how the training programme can develop its teaching and research. I also have an interest in the wellbeing of Health and Social care staff and have led a number of initiatives related to staff support.
